JIM'S NEED FOR SPEED PAGE

A personal reccollection of his PASSION for Motorcycling:

Since the Age of 14, motorcycling has been a major part of Jim's life. Even the first experience with a nasty pile of junk, his 1951 BSA B31 350cc "Cast Iron Cooker" only fuelled the passion to "Live & Breathe" motorcycles.

The NEED FOR SPEED 1article - breifly covers the early years and provides a link to current day Read on in NEED FOR SPEED 2 for more..

More recently Jim has persued Adventure Touring with Friends - being able to climb aboard a modern motorycle, endowed with hard laguage, comfy seat, GPS, good suspension, good brakes, ample horse power and set off for a weekend or a month to search out the best roads and locations has become the pinacle expression of " WE LIVE TO RIDE - WE RIDE TO LIVE"

NEW ZEALAND had some of the finest roads and scenery in the world and it helps that Jim still have family and firends there. Over the last 5 years, Jim has made numerous trips to NZ and more recently has pruchased several motorcycles (BMW 1150R, Ducati ST2) to re-establish his motorcycling heritage there. A recent adventure with Robert Smith, Moto-Journalist saw an article in the Canadian Biker Magazine.. CHECK OUT MY NEW ZEALAND RIDES PAGE

Foreign and overseas riding destinations have become so attractive and accessible to all riders in recent years. A ride to BAJA MEXICO in 2007 with a group of friends really changed the way Jim perceived motorcycling - the sense of Adventure, the struggles and challenges along the way dealing with an accident, breakdowns, flat tires, all gelling together to make an unforgettable adventure.

Picking up again with some of the same friends saw him on the ROAD RUNNER Magazine "FIVE COUNTRY ALPS TOUR" in 2008. 12 Days of riding the mountain passes of Bavaria Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Italy and Switzerland. A one week extension saw the group tour the Motorcycle Factories of MV Agusta, Moto Guzzi and Ducati in Northern Italy along with a once in a lifetime meeting with PIERO LAVERDA at his estate in Vicenza (see LAVERDA Story in that section).
